Cranberry Sauce

This easy homemade Cranberry Sauce is so quick and easy to make, and the addition of orange juice gives it a delicious zesty flavour. It only uses five ingredients and you can enjoy it with all your favourite festive dishes. I often make it a few days ahead so it’s ready for the big day.

You can freeze it or even fill it into jars and enjoy it for a few months after the Christmas season. I made a dozen jars last year and really recommend this tasty Cranberry Sauce not only on Christmas Day, but with porridge, granola or spooned over pancakes at any time of the year.

My homemade Cranberry Sauce features on our Christmas Dinner table every year. No wonder because it’s so easy and quick to make, in fact I often make extra so we can enjoy it all throughout the year.

Ingredients

  • 400g cranberries
  • 2 eating apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup smooth orange juice
  • 1 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredient to a pot and cook gently until the cranberries and apples begin to break down.
  2. Mash with a potato masher until the sauce is smooth and stir well. The orange juice can create some bubbles when it’s heating up, make sure you stir the sauce well when its cooling down to break down the bubbles.
  3. Check for sweetness - cranberries have a very tart and sour taste and require a lot of sugar.
  4. When you are happy with the flavour, fill into sterilised jars or keep in an otherwise airtight container in the fridge. Reheat before placing it on your festive dining table.
  5. The sauce will keep for 5-6 days in the fridge and around 3 months in the freezer and up to 6 months in sterilised jars.
